Ignore, suppress, repress, depressed. Does it really get us any where?
Try to understand, or pretend we do, when we’re still naive to our own hearts.
Smile through it all, so nobody knows the whirlwind taking place inside.
Deep breaths, shaking breaths, deep breaths, blood in our breath.
Tears roll, and so does time, hold a hand, if not your own. Cry a little, baby.
Sick seconds, six seconds, it takes a little longer than that my dear.
We can’t feign that feeling, or the one’s we can’t even comprehend.
Mountains to climb over, and rivers to pass, up the icy slope, just to cope.
Upward is the only way to go

The other day at the hair dresser they had nail polishes by the front desk. The collection was called “The Holland Collection” Im not quite sure why they felt the need to call the collection that considering I don’t think you could really take ten colors of nail polish and justify it as being more “Holland-ish” than anything else. Nevertheless, the names of the colors were pretty funny…well pretty punny. One was called “did you ear about Van Gogh”
So I decided to find out more about one of my favorite artists today. Van Gogh. While we admire his works of art, I want to know a bit more about his daily life and the things he went through.
Van Gogh was a Dutch Painter in the 1800’s. He is best known for his post-impressionist art work that would influence artists all throughout the 20th century. Van Gogh had a passion for drawing since he was a child, but he didnt begin painting until his late 20’s. He did his best work in the last two years of his life, but managed to make 2,100 works of art in a little over a decade.
Van Gogh also had an early dream of being a pastor and worked as a missionary in Belgium for quite a few years starting in 1879. He would sketch people in the community and 1885 he painted his first major work of art. A year later he moved to France, and being inspired by the beauty of the sunlight his paintings began to get brighter and brighter and he soon developed his own recognizable style.
Most of the information we know about Van Gogh today has come from letters between him and his brother Theo. Van Gogh suffered from various mental illnesses that cannot be diagnosed for sure, but Theo was by his side along all of it. They lived together for sometime, and while others living with them were bothered, Theo continued to stick by Vincent’s side. Theo also supported his brother financially and was an art dealer himself. Van Gogh had four other siblings, but none as close to him as Theo.
In the later years of his life, Van Gogh’s mental illness was getting increasingly worse. He suffered from hallucinations, seizures, night-mares, and anxiety. In one of his most intense bouts of anxiety and seizure Van Gogh cut off his own ear. He was eventually admitted into a mental hospital where he stayed for many months. During this time he continued to paint, but it pained him even to draw. Because he had limited access to the outside world, he often painted other patients there.
In the last year of his life, Van Gogh was deeply depressed, and in July of 1890 he shot himself. He did not die until a day later with his brother by his side. His reported last words were “the sadness will last forever.”
A true beautiful disaster.
So, I was writing a list of all the things I wanted to save up for. I don’t usually want big expensive things, so my list composed of “lens for my camera” and “tattoo”. The first really doesnt even count because Im really just saving up to pay my mom back for the lens she gave me.
So I decided I wanted to learn a bit about the history of tattoos. I had heard a thing about it here and there, but if Im going to have something on my body forever, I may as well know the history of how they came to be. I mean, when you think about it, tattoos are a pretty bizarre idea. Lets take this ink and this needle and jam it into peoples skin so the image is there for the rest of their life, good idea, bro, ya think?
The stone age, it all started then as a eurasian practice. A man named Otzi the Iceman whose life dates back to 3300 BC was said to have 57 separate tattoos. Many were just lines and crosses, but still 57! That’s a lot of lines and crosses.
Once we move past the stone age and into the ancient times, we see many other countries beginning to practice the art of tattooing. In China tattoos were usually associated with criminals, while in India and Egypt they were used as a cultural symbol for tribes and other groups. In northern India tattoos are called “gonda”.
For years tattoos were used to represent groups, religions, or tribes. In today’s world, tattoos can literally represent just about anything….and sometimes they even represent nothing.
When indelible ink is inserted into the Dermis layer of the skin, the pigment permanently changes, thus creating a tattoo. In ancient times the skin would be cut and ink would be rubbed into the wound….sounds unsanitary.
The most common tool used to do professional tattoos is the electric tattoo machine. Though some use a method called “stick n poke” which is when you use a needle and dip it in ink and then poke the skin until the dermis layer is reached. This is a slower and less common practice, but one beginner tattoo artists may use.
The most tattooed woman has 95 % of her body tattooed. Thats a lot of needles jabbing into your skin.
the pics your sister just took are really great! How do you stay so natural looking for photos? My bf tried taking updated pics of me but I felt I was trying too hard to pose and smile so I wasn't pleased with them.
Umm, I guess I try to think how I would look if I wasnt taking a picture…but simply standing there taking everything in. I dunno, snap lots of pictures. Some will be better than others, but the more you take, the more you have to choose from!
Part of me feels like it isn’t quite over,
but all of me knows that it has to be.
So internet memes are all the rage. Quite literally. The newest one, is a very angry cow. However, few people question why they are actually called meme’s. So today I decided to do some research on the meaning of the word and the history of the internet sensations.
The word “meme” is an idea or behavior that spreads from one person to another within a culture. It’s usually a self replicating idea that is spread quickly. It’s sometimes used to describe the brainwashing spread of ideas in a cult. The field of memetics studies the ways in which these ideas are spread.
In the case of the internet meme, the idea, picture, video, or hashtag is spread through internet sites. They can be spread through a variety of social networking sites, forums, and blogs. Most commonly referred to as a “meme” are the pictures of various people/animals with hilarious, ironic, and punny sayings on them. It seems that everyone has a meme they can relate to!
Success Kid, is one of my favorite memes. A young boy with a smug look on his face is usually accompanied a not-so-successful success. Things that only a younger generation might actually find successful. An example would be “clicked wrong link….clicked right link before it loaded,” because we all know how absolutely dreadful it would be to go to the wrong website for all of four seconds!
Success Kid has a name! It is Sammy. Laney, Sammy’s mother took the infamous picture of him on the beach in 2007, he was only 11 months old at the time. She posted it on her flickr and Getty Images. In as early as 2008, people began using the photo as an avatar on myspace, usually with the phrase “I hate sandcastles”, if you look close enough on the meme, you can see the sand in his hand! In early 2011 success kid started being used as a meme style image on Reddit. And we all know when something goes on reddit, it spreads like wild fire.

I’ve always been curious about Eskimo culture. While I’m sure I’m completely ignorant to their philosophies, beliefs, and socioeconomic state in the world, it seems odd to live your life in the snow ALL of the time. Nevertheless, while I may not fully understand why, it is still a very interesting topic. Specifically igloos. I was never successful at building an Igloo as a child, but I did manage to make igloo into a joke that would be taken way to far between my lovely room mate and I.
Well, an igloo, as we all know is a house built of snow. It was originally and still most commonly used by inuit people. While all Inuit people used igloos, it was most commonly used by those living in the northern parts of Canada and Greenland. While in some areas the term eskimo has a negative or politically incorrect connotation, in Canada and Alaska the term is commonly used because it describes all cultures of the Eskimos.
The word Igloo is derived from the Inuit word iglu. The word iglu can be used to describe a variety of types of homes including snowhouses, but also sod houses, or houses constructed from driftwood. The word igluvijaq, specifically means snow home. Outside of the Inuit society the term igloo is used to describe exclusively snowhouses.
Different size igloos are used for different purposes. A smaller igloo would be constructed to house just a few people, usually less than five. They would be constructed to last just a few days and were commonly used on hunting trips. Medium houses are semi-permanent and made for a family. While it may be just one room, it is much larger than the igloos made just for a few nights. THey can usually house one or two families and are often built in a village with a few other surrounding Igloos. Larger igloos may be build with several rooms, or sometimes two smaller igloos can be connected with tunnels. These can house up to twenty people and are often used for special events.
Eskimos believe that the best kind of snow to use is that which has been blown by wind. It apparently helps compact and interlock the ice crystals. Igloos are build by spiraling blocks of snow around each other. And who would have guessed, but compared to the frigid temperature outside, igloos can be surprisingly warm inside, going up to 19-60 degrees farenheit.
So the mystery of why Eskimos even still exist will have to be solved on another day, but at least I know how they stay warm!
I wanted to go to prom too! Tonight was my sister’s prom, so while I was busy taking pictures of her, she took a few of me. I was holding a clutch for one of the girls in my sister’s “prom group” so it does look a little prom-esque.
I realize there are some people that just don’t think for themselves. Which is why I hope that all of my followers think independantly and research things that you’re interested in.
SO! To feel more like Phineas and Ferb and to feel less like a normal college student who would like to spend all…
I like laughing, I like laughing a lot, if you wanna laugh a lot.
Check out THIS GUY
His name is Sam. He is awesome. Check it out!
